Statistics on China-Africa Trade in January-May, 2019

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs of China, in January-May, China’s total import and export volume with Africa was US$84.76 billion, up 3.0% year on year, exceeding the overall growth rate of foreign trade in the same period by 4.6 percentage points. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$43.57 billion, up 6.3% year on year and China’s imports from Africa were US$41.19 billion, down 0.3% year on year; the trade surplus was US$2.38 billion.

In May, China’s total import and export volume with Africa was US$18.67 billion, up 1.7% year on year. Among these, China’s exports to Africa were US$10.28 billion, up 8.7% year on year; China’s imports from Africa were US$8.39 billion, down 6.0% year on year; the trade surplus was US$1.89 billion, up 249.2% year on year.

In January-May, the growth rate of China’s trade with Africa was lower than those with Oceania(6.2%), Latin America(4.8%) and Europe(3.9%).
